A new campaign to help struggling grassroots music venues has been set up by Music Venue Trust to aid venues with financial difficulty.
The crowdfunding campaign aims to support grassroots venues where the government has failed to do so. Many venues still have bills and staff to pay and whilst being unable to open due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they do not have any source of income to pay these bills.
Grassroots venues are the heart of not just the local music scene, but nationally. Many of todays biggest artists started in small pub venues. See below a video of Mercury Prize nominated Black Midi playing at the Windmill in Brixton last year, a venue which over the years has grown many big names in the indie world such as Shame, Sorry, Goat Girl and many more.
